Social Magazines Acquires Old City Life Magazine

St. Augustine Social and Old City Life Magazines Merge

St. Augustine, FL (December 2018) – Occasions Media Group, publishers of St. Augustine Social magazine, have acquired Old City Life magazine and merged the two brands together to create one big, impactful city magazine of St. Augustine, FL.

Publishers Heather and Andrew Vreeland say, “In today’s media climate there is only strength in numbers. To set ourselves up for long-term success, we knew it would be best to combine efforts rather than compete. Doing this reduces cost and maximizes revenue ultimately allowing us to improve the services we offer to local businesses, continue to cover the rising tide of good news happening in St. Augustine, Florida with editorial integrity, and provide a reliable income for our employees and contributors.”

The name will continue on as St. Augustine Social magazine, but the personality of Old City Life magazine won’t be lost. The fruits of the acquisition can been seen in the current Feb/Mar 2019 issue of St. Augustine Social that debuts a newly-redesigned look, larger fonts, and recognizable Old City Life traits like full-length feature stories, shopping guides, outdoor enthusiast features, and behind-the-scenes stories from restaurateurs.

Ken Yarbrough, publisher of Old City Life, says, “I’m really happy to see the way our teams, contributors, and advertisers have come together in such a way that serves St. Augustine so well and will continue on the legacy and mission of Old City Life, no matter the name.”

The Old City Life brand may not dissolve entirely. Once they have successfully carried out the merger plan of the two magazines, the Occasions Media Group team will continue to brainstorm a possible relaunch of Old City Life as a specialty publication targeted to a speciality demographic later in 2019.

The Vreelands continue, “We had a gut feeling this would be the best plan for both magazines, and our intuition was spot on. The transition was incredibly smooth and the feedback from our advertisers and community has been 100% positive.”
